People usually say that dog owners are one of a kind. They tend to be the sort of people that are kind and thoughtful and have a very caring nature. When you have a dog and you take them out for a walk, you can find that nowadays this turns into mini social events, because not only do the dogs make new friends but also the owners do as well, thus a new social circle for all concerns begins.
Having a dog no matter what size means that you have to be organized. You can’t just suddenly decide on a Saturday morning that you’ll go away for the weekend (unless of course the dog goes with you too) because you can’t just up and leave your dog to fend for itself. Organization is the key. Maybe a friend/relative will have your dog stay over with them but that can unsettle the dog as well. Is it possible for a friend/relative to dog/house sit for you? You’d be surprised how many your friend/relatives may jump at the chance of ‘going away’ for the weekend themselves, even if it means a change of scenery but with free use of the fridge and freezer!!
There is nothing quite like after being at work all day, putting your key in the door and being met with a tail wagging, whining with excitement dog – This really is welcome home mom/dad. No matter what size of dog you have, the love and affection you give them will be given back ten fold. It can be very therapeutic to have your dog on your lap and just sit there stroking them. Your dog gets to know your voice and will get to recognize keywords when you are talking to them. This usually means that they’ll get to know the type of mood you are in as well!
Think of all the fun that you and your dog can go on. The benefits for you and your dog will be that you’ll both get plenty of fresh air, and exercise. If your dog is trained properly in retrieving, think of the fun that you can have with a ball in an open space with your dog (it will be like being a kid again for you, and getting away with it!).
Love your dog and they will love you back. The years ahead for both of you, should be filled with fun and love.
