Toilet training

You can imagine the puddles and the mess that a puppy can deposit in a house, in the first few weeks in their new home. It will no doubt seem at the beginning no matter how much newspaper you put down, they will always manage to find a new spot. All the different smells around the new house will be screaming out to be “christened”. Hopefully after a few days you will get to realize the puppy may start to using the same spot, and after following them around, mopping everything up, you may possibly decide to use a method that has recently being found to be most useful. Obviously, the method below is for in-house training,  but you should really get into the habit that as soon as they have eaten a meal to take them outside into the garden. After a while this should become second nature to the puppy and they will hopefully soon start to bark if they need to go out. With regards to the in-house training, you find the following approach is any easier method, because don’t forget you still have a life to lead, and you will often have to leave the puppy in the house on it’s own.

If you can get something with the dog’s own smell on (i.e. soiled newspaper), place it into a plastic cat litter tray. As the sides of the rims aren’t very high, you should find your puppy can quite easily step into it and there smell is already in there so they should start to use that as their toilet. Once that has been established, use cat litter in the tray on a daily basis. With any luck, you should find that your new puppy will also use the tray for their entire toilet.

Good luck!
